We wanted discuss some of the new content and give some visibility on some things we’re currently working on. We’ve had our heads down working hard on more content and so I apologize for not posting in a while but I’ll try to answer some of the questions that have been asked.

Community Feedback

Thank you for continuing to discuss Co-op topics including new features, missions, commanders, balance, mastery, bugs, playstyles, mutations, and new ideas! All this feedback has been really helpful for us. Many of the topics in this post are a direct result of these discussions on the forums.

Dead of Night

We’ve seen the posts about the mission’s difficulty and we are keeping a close eye on it. So far, the win rate hasn’t been out of line when compared to the other maps but if it swings too far towards the easy side we can take a look at making some changes. Thank you for the feedback and please continue these discussions! Now, for those of you craving a challenge on this map, some of you have noticed that Dead of Night can be particularly nasty with certain Mutator combinations . . . please look forward to what we have in store for you! ;)

Commander Balance

We’re always keeping an eye on commander balance. Currently there is a very good discussion about Abathur on the forums. This type of discussion is super helpful for us because it provided detailed analysis and concrete examples of what he is struggling with. A lot of good points were made that I think we can take direct action on, but remember, be nice to each other! ;) We agree that Abathur is a slow ramp commander and his early game can determine whether he can build enough momentum to become an unstoppable force. We’re currently looking at some buffs we can do to help his early game but not affect the end game too much. These changes aren’t set in stone but we’re looking at the following: Ravager Corrosive Bile, Queen anti air range, Brutalisk weapon upgrades, and Toxic Nests. Also, Parasitic Bomb should totally be allowed to target heroic units.

Mastery Changes

Related to commander balance, we recently changed some of the Mastery powers and rearranged some of the categories to make more compelling choices. There was good discussion around Alarak’s changes and how they now discourage his mech build because the Structure Overcharge Mastery is a “must have.” Of course, we don’t want to weaken his mech build so we will be looking at how to address that. It might mean buffing the unit attack speed Mastery or it might mean looking at reorganizing the categories again.

Mutation Challenges

We love how Mutation challenges have been going. Different challenges make different commander choices optimal but we do have some questions for the community: Are there any commanders that you feel are generally at a disadvantage in the weekly Mutations? Internally, some were worried that Zagara would have a tough time. Challenge accepted! I started using Zagara to complete every mutation challenge on Brutal since then. Can you complete the challenges with a variety of commanders? Which ones are the hardest?

Level Cap & Leaderboards

We know more people are hitting the level cap now and we are exploring some ideas to allow players to show off how awesome they are and how much they love Co-Op! We agree with many of you that it should not include more power. The power level of the commanders is already at 11 and the AI doesn’t know what else it can do. It even started cheating with Mutators and it is still getting destroyed! In combination with our upcoming leaderboard system, it really doesn’t make sense to “require” someone to level their commanders super high just to interact with that system. We think leaderboards will be a fun way to recognize the high skilled players and find out who the best players are for each commander. Can you be the best Raynor in your region? We hope we’re designing it in a way that doesn’t hurt normal “pug” players playing a standard game of Co-op.

Co-Op Replays

We’re investigating this feature since it has been requested by the community. Co-op missions have especially complicated UI and HUD related features that makes replays not a trivial task. We do think it would be cool to be able to go back and watch an epic moment or try to learn and improve, especially for difficult mutation challenges.
